Novel In Progress

PAIN
excerpt
I turn on the faucet and splash water onto my face, but that’s about as helpful as spitting on a forest fire. I wish I could be the way I used to be—a normal seventeen-year-old guy. I’d hang out with friends, play the trumpet, and read neo-feminist Marxist interpretations of Hamlet in my spare time—just for fun. I could recite Romeo and Juliet from the beginning to the end. I can’t do much of anything anymore.

THE IN-BETWEEN PLACE
This was my first attempt at a novel. It is complete but it needs extensive revisions.

Short Stories

THE HARVEST
Mediphors
A Literary Journal of Health Professionals
Excerpt

I arrive at work in the intensive care unit of County Hospital and Lila, the unit coordinator, informs me without so much as a hello, that JC has been declared legally dead.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WORLD
Cricket Magazine, September 1999
Excerpt

When Bushra told me she was moving--moving all the way to Pakistan--I said, "You can't. That's the other side of the world. You can't do that to me."

She dropped her book bag onto the floor, sat on my bed, and faced me. "I have to go. My parents have already sold the restaurant."
